Ride for Cancer is a one day cycling event for rookie and experienced riders alike in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada and the QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation. In just two years, the event has raised more than $585,000 net in support of cancer research, treatment, and patient care. Last year alone, the event had approximately 300 participants and raised approximately $415,000 net! Among other things, funds raised were used to:
- Support a local researcher at Dalhousie University who uses zebrafish to find better therapies for patients with difficult to treat types of leukemia
- Purchase an EBUS Machine (a piece of equipment that allows doctors to diagnose enlarged lymph nodes in the chest without the need for surgery)
- Provide free care packages for newly diagnosed blood cancer patients
The 2017 event will take place on September 30th and will offer 5 distance options from Mahone Bay to Halifax – 25km, 50km, or 100km via trail OR 100km or 130km via road. Check out the event video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr1hzMMep-A.
