If you haven’t yet lined up a summer job, you’re probably scrambling to find one that you’re actually going to enjoy. Everyone knows about the typical jobs, like retail, office help, the service industry, or internships, so we asked the Dal Student Life Street Team what types of summer jobs they’ve had. Look for one of these when you’re on your job search.
1. Dance teacher
Have a passion for dancing? Then becoming a dance teacher could be a great job for you this summer! Think about it, you could spend the whole summer doing ballet, jazz, or any other type of dance you can imagine. Not a dancer? Think about what you’re skilled at and passionate about and teach that!
2. Camp counsellor
Being a camp counsellor is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and meet new people. Who wouldn’t love roasting marshmallows by the fire this summer? Plus, you’ll end up with more friendship bracelets than you’ll know what to do with, and you’ll teach some great life skills to all the wide-eyed kids who look up to you.
3. Tree planter
Do you like hot weather, cold weather, wet land, dry land, lots of bugs, and not bathing for a week at a time? Then this is the job for you! Seriously, though: you can see some interesting places across the country, know you’re doing good by helping to reforest Canada, and make some good cash while you’re at it.
4. Parks Canada
National parks and historical sites around Canada have lots of summer jobs for students, including youth ambassadors, research assistance, visitor service, and animal rescue. And with opportunities from the Citadel in Halifax and Cape Breton Highlands National Park (pictured below) to Banff National Park in Alberta and Aulavik National Park in the Northwest Territories, you’re bound to see some amazing parts of the country.
5. Uber Eats driver
So, no one on the Street Team has actually been an Uber Eats driver yet, but why not? It could be a great way to make money while having a more flexible schedule this summer.
6. Swimming instructor/lifeguard
This is a great way to spend the long hot summer in the pool, on the beach, or at a lake. It’s like getting paid to do what you want to do all summer anyway!
Are there any cool jobs that I missed? What was your favourite summer job? Tells us in the comments below!
