College Royal is just around the corner and we are hyped! This Friday, October 12, come out to our livestock show where gorgeous cows, sheep, and poultry will be presented by Dal AC students. If this is your first time experiencing College Royal, here’s a quick survival guide so you know what to expect.
Practice, practice, practice
Are you an experienced show person? Or is this your first time touching an animal? Going in to even simply say, “hi” to your animal goes a long way towards the bond you build, which is important in the ring. If you can build a telepathic connection with your animal, that’s even better. It’s like that old expression, “Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you can’t get it wrong.”

Ah, the glamorous life of a show person. It looks so easy, doesn’t it? The fluffy sheep prancing, fleece as white as snow. The cows with spots so dark they look like black holes and their soft, luscious tail hairs. The chickens with smooth feathers, squeaky beaks, toenails oh so varnished. Well, that takes a lot of work. You think barn animals wake up in the morning like that? Wrong! Look up the best techniques to get your show pal beautified and attend our showmanship info session to learn how to properly clip, bathe, and show your animal!
Your sheep has run off again, hasn’t it? Happens to the best of us. But don’t despair! You’ve worked so hard already and will soon miss the days you were chasing ol’ Daisy around the paddock. Remember to take a deep breath, count to 10, and try again. Great things come out of patience.
That’s the whole point of this event! Get out there, learn a few things, and have fun! Make some good memories with your friends and animal. You may one day become old and grizzly, but you’ll always have your time at College Royal at Dal AC.
Rocky knows everything there is to know about the College Royale!
