1. Scenic trails outside your door
If you enjoy a good walk or an evening run, you’re in luck! The Cobequid Trail runs behind campus and is the perfect scenic route with views of the Salmon River, our campus pastures, and much more. You can hop on the trail behind Trueman House!
2. Lots of free tours
3. One card for everything
Learn to eat, sleep and breathe with your DalCard in hand. It’s your meal hall pass, your library card, and you can even put money on it so it’s like a debit card and use it at the campus bookstore. Keep it in a safe spot and guard it with your life! You may also want to let your parents know they can put cash on your card if they’d like to…
4. Student government
The Dalhousie Agricultural Students’ Association (DASA) has a student executive, a student representative council, and many clubs and societies. The best part? You have a say. Make sure you vote or even run yourself.
5. New student lounge
Another great thing about your student executive? They have a new lounge (the DASA lounge) that’s open to all students. You can find it in the new Learning Commons.
6. Safe way back to your room
Do you do your best studying late at night? You’re not the only one! Dal just wants to make sure you get home safe. You can use Dal’s SAFEWalk service and a security officer will walk with you to or from any building on campus. Download the DalSAFE app to keep all security-related info at your fingertips.
7. Animals on campus
Looking for some stress relief from assignment deadlines? The Ruminant Animal Centre (RAC) on campus is home to our four-legged friends (cows and sheep) who always welcome company (and even cuddles!) between classes. The quick walk down to the RAC is great to clear your mind too.
8. Great staff
Respect the dining hall staff. Without them, you don’t eat. Take a second to get to know their names and say hello when you pass by them each day. It’ll make a difference to your dining experience. They even welcome suggestions for meals or things you’d like to see.
9. Lots of ways to get involved
The easiest way to meet people on campus is by getting involved. Whether you take part in an evening fitness class (Zumba and Yoga), join one of the many clubs and societies (Pre-Vet Club, Agrology Club, ACT Theatre Society, to name a few) or try a new sport on campus (Woodsmen, Cross Country, Equestrian Team), there truly is something for everyone!
10. Health care on campus
Need health care? Health Services has two registered nurses available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and a doctor every Monday for scheduled appointments. No matter what your health concern may be, the staff of Health Services will keep you at your best!
11. More great staff to help you succeed
Looking to maximize your academic success in the classroom? Dal AC has some great programs including the “On Track” program that operates across Dalhousie. There is a dedicated Student Success Centre with a team of staff to help you succeed and thrive as a student. Stop by the Dairy Building to learn more!
12. Fantastic academic resources
Are you used to having mom and dad proofread your assignments and essays? Why not use the Writing Centre on campus instead? Bring your essays and assignments for a second set of eyes. The Writing Centre can do wonders not only for your grammar and sentence structure, but also for your grades!
There’s also a Math and Physics Centre (MAP Centre) on campus with student tutors to help you master course concepts. It’s open during the evenings and can help you stay on top of those weekly assignments.
13. Amazing events on campus
Certain events on campus are long-standing Aggie traditions. Show an animal at our College Royal event, cheer on your fellow Aggies at the Farmer’s Olympics, or watch your fellow students chop, cut, and saw their way to success at our annual Woodsmen competition. These events will all be advertised during the academic year so bring your fellow Aggies and enjoy the many campus traditions!
14. Friendly instructors
It may seem intimidating to ask a question in class or visit a professor during office hours, but they want you to succeed and will always welcome your questions and appointments. Take responsibility for your learning and take advantage of your time with each professor.
