The holidays are almost here whether we like it or not! It can be a stressful time, especially when your funds are a little low. But here are some thoughtful, heartfelt, DIY gifts that your family and friends (and your bank account) will love! Because what matters most is spending time together.
1. The gift of baking
What’s better than fresh baked goods during the holidays? You can be as creative as you like! You can either make up a fresh batch of something or you can give them the ingredients (nicely wrapped, of course) so they can make it themselves! Try this easy chocolate chip cookie recipe. You could also just buy some Pillsbury pre-made dough (no judgment). To wrap them, put them in a decorated box, or wrap them up in a clear baggie and use ribbon to decorate it! If you want to be super cute and give them all the ingredients measured and ready to go, try some of these great jar recipes.
2. Hot chocolate kit
This is my favourite. All you need is hot chocolate mix (which you can buy in bulk to save even more money), some marshmallows, and maybe some peppermint candies. Head here for some inspiration.
Again, you can do this in bulk! If you know the person’s favourite candy or chocolate, put it in a mason jar and decorate it! Who doesn’t like candy and chocolate?
4. Heat pack
Heat packs can be a lifesaver during the cold, wet Nova Scotia winters, so this gift is a great (and useful) one! You need to know how to sew, but it’s pretty straightforward! Get the instructions here.
These are super cute and perfect for anyone who loves a hot drink in the winter (aka everyone!). They also look like something you would buy at some fancy home store, so they’re guaranteed to get you brownie points. All you need is some rope and some patience. The instructions show you have to knit the coaster with your fingers! For instructions click Get the instructions here.
This one is a little bit more expensive, but you can do it in bulk if you need to. You can make your very own beeswax candles for everyone on your list! Who doesn’t love candles this time of year? Click here for the instructions.
7. Personalized mug
This one is pretty easy, and you can customize it for whoever you’re giving it to! All you need is an oil-based marker, a plain mug, and some creativity! Get the instructions here.
