With the semester quickly coming to a close it can be hard to focus on anything beyond getting through exams and taking some well-deserved time off. However, there are already a ton of great events in the works for the coming year! If you’re new to Dal, these will all be new to you!
Dal 200 – January to December
If you haven’t seen the banners across campus or new sign on the Quad, 2018 is Dal’s 200th anniversary! The first celebratory event of the new and anniversary year is a skate on the Oval on January 1 so grab your mittens, skates and head on down! Keep an eye on dal200.ca for all the events throughout the year.
Society & Volunteer Expo – January 30
Interested in getting involved on campus? Dal hosts a Society & Volunteer Expo every semester. Keep an eye on the Dalhousie Student Union Facebook page for all of the details in the new year.
Advising Month & Academic Program Fair – January 31
February is Advising Month which promotes and celebrates academic decision-making. It starts with the Academic Program Fair on January 31 that connects students with programs across campus (a great place to start when thinking about declaring your major!) and is followed by a series of workshops throughout the month.
It’s also a great time to set up a one-on-one meeting with an advisor. Dalhousie has advisors to help you figure out what your goals are and then get you there!
DalLead! Conference – February 2
DalLead! is an incredible learning opportunity for students. There are workshops and guest speakers dealing with everything from budgeting to developing your personal brand! This year the theme is, “What’s next?” Check out the Facebook event for all of the details and updates.
Dalhousie Job & Career Fair – February 8
Need a summer job? Looking for a career after you graduate? Drop by the fair and check out all the employers looking for talented people like yourself!
TEDx Dalhousie – March TBD
The international phenomenon gets the Dal treatment every year. Want to be entertained and inspired? Keep an eye for updates on the Facebook page because tickets go fast!
International Women’s Week – March 5–9
There will be events all over campus to celebrate International Women’s Week. Check out the Human Rights & Equity Services website for the background information and details from last year. The events for this year will be posted in February.
CIS Men’s Basketball Finals – March 8–11
Halifax is hosting the CIS men’s basketball finals again this year at the Scotiabank Centre. Last year the Tigers won bronze—their highest-ever result! So mark your calendars, grab some black & gold swag from the Bookstore, and come out to cheer them all the way to a gold medal! Check out all the Dalhousie Tigers varsity schedules at daltigers.ca.
Impact Awards – March 22
The Impact Awards recognize incredible students for doing amazing things on campus and in the community, and for being generally awesome people! Check here for all of the details and to nominate a friend (or yourself)!
DASSS Academic Conference – March 23–24
Every year the Dalhousie Arts & Social Sciences Society (DASSS) hosts an academic conference where students present their academic work. Do you have a piece of work you’d like to submit? Email your questions and/or submission to email@example.com.
Note: Academic papers must be related to the arts and social sciences in some way.
And as always, there are plenty of other workshops and events happening all the time at Dal. Visit dal.ca/studentevents to explore them all!
