“Blended learning has been demonstrated to yield higher levels of success than either face-to-face or online alone. Studies in both academic and grey literature have presented findings which show higher orders of learning – what we call “deeper learning” through this model. The future is very promising, due to its accessibility and ease of access, regardless of location, or time zones….”
Martine Durier-Copp, Director CFAME
CFAME is recognized as a Centre of Excellence for delivering blended/online programs designed to enhance the learning experience for professionals. The ability to learn from wherever you are, flexible program options, and a robust support team have positioned CFAME as an innovator in knowledge transfer and exchange.
Achieving the sought-after MBA designation, is not the final destination for CFAME graduates. Their influence, as strategic thinkers in the knowledge economy, is a confirmation that continuous learning leads to success and increased productivity. This is the legacy of CFAME’s commitment to excellence.
“With each and every course in the MBA program I was able to immediately apply what I learned to my work. By understanding specific theories or applications, the program stretched my thinking and the way I look at problems.” Jackie Challenger, VP, RBC, MBA (FS) 2006
CFAME seeks to strengthen deeper learning through virtual teams. As a centre of excellence, CFAME continues to study elearning/blended learning by providing professional development/capacity building sessions to CFAME instructors on a quarterly basis. The research is thus applied – findings are immediately translated into best practices for instructors.
Martine Durier-Copp, a leader in this discipline, notes: “We have been working hard to achieve the Centre of Excellence recognition.” At the 21st Annual Online Learning Consortium International Conference Martine presented “Strengthening deeper learning through virtual teams in e-learning: A synthesis of determinants and best practices, International Journal of eLearning and Distance Education” which achieved publication in an international peer-reviewed journal, September 2016. CFAME has been awarded one national Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Knowledge Mobilization grant to study virtual teams in the e-learning environment, and three Dalhousie Centre for Learning grants (learning analytics, virtual teams and e-leadership).
This year, CFAME is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the MBA (Financial Services). Much has been accomplished over the years, but the journey continues. CFAME Connection is the next centre of excellence iteration. Drawing upon the collective voices of the CFAME community of students and alumni will contribute to a higher level of understanding and engagement in learning, development and scholarship.
