The blog project has had some big changes recently. I’ve been communicating this directly with the blog admins to work on addressing their particular needs, but I figured it was time to share some of the details here.
First, we recently completed a server change. Our original space allocation was small and we wanted to make sure we had the capacity to expand. As part of this, we’ve dramatically increased the space available for file/media uploads for each blog to 500MB (it was originally 40 MB).
Second, we’ve now integrated LDAP directory tools with the blogging platform. Instead of having a separate username/password system for blogs.dal.ca, all users now log in with their Dalhousie Net ID and password. Along with this, we now have the capacity for “private” blogs – ones that can only be accessible to the Dalhousie community.
These changes are just the start of our ongoing efforts to improve this communications tool. We’re hoping to hold a session with all our bloggers in October to review what we’ve done so far, what we’re missing and what we can do to improve this platform. Stay tuned!
