One of the back-end issues we’ve been struggling with in the early days of blogs.dal.ca was the importer tool. It’s very important to us that folks who’ve been blogging as part of their Dalhousie communications on other services – like Blogger or Typepad – be able to import their post and comment archives over to our system instead of starting from scratch. In theory, our WordPressMU system made this easy. In practice, though, the import tool from Blogger (one of the most popular blog sites in the world) was buggy beyond belief and few authors had any success with it.
Those issues, I’m pleased to report, appear to have been solved. You should now be able to import posts from Blogger with ease. If you’re a blog admin, just click on the “Manage” tab in your dashboard followed by the “Import” link. Then just follow the links from there.
We’re hoping to upgrade to the next edition of WordPressMU this week; this should hopefully solve a few of the other issues we’ve been having, like not being able to post certain types of multimedia content. This shouldn’t affect anyone’s ability to post content, but I’ll post an update once it’s live with a sense of what’s been updated/changed.
