Gesner Monument Restored
This week, members of the Basin and Reservoir Lab visited the recently cleaned and polished memorial to the deceased Abraham P. Gesner (May 2, 1797 – April 29, 1864). The Dalhousie Sable Petroleum Club (AAPG, CSPG) and the Basin & Reservoir Lab recently had the monument cleaned, as a tribute to Gesner’s outstanding contribution to the world’s oil industry as the inventor of kerosene. A Canadian physician and geologist, Gesner is also credited as a primary founder alongside Ignacy Lukasiewicz, who developed the modern kerosene lamp.
