This year, representing Dalhousie University’s Dawson Energy in the annual AAPG Imperial Barrel Award Competition (IBA), will be Maya Soukup, Zachary Feener, Fiona Henderson, Patrick Manion, and Kyle Wittenberg. This competition is an international basin evaluation competition for small teams of geoscience students. At Dalhousie University the IBA program is available for course credit as ERTH 4131/5131 Advanced Petroleum Geoscience, allowing undergraduates to compete in a Master’s level competition. The team will have eight weeks starting January 14th to analyze a prescribed dataset, (which this year focuses on the North Slope of Alaska), develop a plan of potential prospects of oil and gas exploration, and present it to an expert panel of judges. Team mentor Adjunct Bill Richards will advise on Petrel Software Techniques. The team will need to use their time wisely over the next two months to develop both their exploration plan and presentation. Good luck competitors!
