The afternoon started off with a fantastic lunch, consisting of sausage rolls, train smash, Greek salad, and fresh homemade rolls. After an hour to catch up on some field guide writing and perfecting our data sheets for our independent research projects, we headed out on a game drive/data collection session. We were lucky enough to see the parade of elephants march by both jeeps again today. The matriarch, the calf and 14 other members were sighted.
Since arriving at Amakhala Game Reserve we observed the male lion. He was seen sunbathing on a mountainside. Not too far away we encountered the rest of the pride, sauntering up the road towards the crest of the hill. Other animals spotted during the drive included: Plain’s zebra, impala, kudu, a black-headed heron, black wildebeest, and the lone Cape buffalo (called a “dugger boy” after leaving the rest of herd), along with many small bird species.
Supper consisted of bobotjie (curried ground beef with onions and an egg topping), a tomato and onion salad, rice with raisins that was all of very tasty. For dessert we had a delightful flapjack topped with bananas. After supper wrapped up, we sat around the table all tired and in a need to catch up on some much needed sleep! Where did 6 days go? Only 13 left!
